Education system in Malaysia has for a long time been criticised for being too academically driven instead of serving its purpose of educating children to become someone balanced in life. Results in exams matter so much now that children are being sent to tuition classes after a long day of school. In this weird age in Malaysia, if you cannot get straight A's in public exams, den u can be deprived of chances to improve your life through education. Yes, we all need to study and exams are indeed needed to at least disipline a child to at least put something inside their brains. However, exams nowadays are being taken over board. Why do i say this? Have a look at the new syllabus our form 4's this year are gonna take for their SPM next year.
The "wajib" subjects have been increased this year to a SEVEN subjects if you're going to orientation this week. Lets take a look at the the core subjects which every student have to take in SPM next year.
1) Bahasa Malaysia
2) English
3) Pendidikan Moral
4) Maths
5) Sejarah
6) Sivic
7) Pendidikan Jasmani
Lets see now. We used to need 5 credits to pass SPM. Thats why the least subjects most people take is either 6 or 7. But now, you'll need 7 credits to pass your SPM. Whats with the Sivic and Pendidikan Jasmani coming out on SPM papers?? What is Sivic all about? Isnt it the same as Pendidikan Moral? No, it isnt. It teaches about all sorts of ruling there is in this country. Its not an easy subject to study to say the least if your're not good in ur BM. Pendidikan Jasmani for SPM?? Im kinda speechless now. I just pity the students in form 4 next year and following. I really thank GOD that SPM is over for me.
If you see, whats the use of studying Sivic? I just don't get it. What the heck can you do if you happen to know a little more about the law? Can you challenge the Goverment if you learn more Sivic? The answer is hell no because there is the ISA. What good would it do to be studying more subjects for SPM? So that the record A's for SPM can be broken every year to show that we have a effective education system? This is so wrong. If you see properly again, i would applaud the goverment for at last recognising sports as an important subject but again why WAJIB?? I dont see the point. You see if you're a science student this year in form four, you'll be studying 12 subjects on the minimum and 14 to be more on par with the rest of the form. So what if you get 14 A1's for SPM?? Does it mean you are going to be successful in life? No, it doesnt. Does it mean that if you get 10 A1's but the rest B's your a failure? No. 10 subjects are already seen as hell a lot and now they're increasing it. So much so THANK YOU MR GOVERMENT .I.
This is just the education system being messed up and totally wrong. Its again the quality over quantity debate. Its has been proven time and again that quality always win on the long term. In the overseas, they take five core subjects and thats the maximum u are allowed to take. This is why on a long run they can do better than us as they're much more focused on what is their goal and not take all the subject to stress up their life. What's the use of studying so many subjects? Its something like " Jack of all trades but master of none ". Maybe thats why Malaysia can never produce world beating champions and world class quality students. This is sick and wrong. Its messed up along with all the country. Let hope we'll not take any steps backwards in this every fast forwarding world as education can and will change life of people. Are you listening HISHAMUDDIN??
THIS IS WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!
